A brief history of my obsession and 3 «boring» product recommendations

Actually, there’s not much that appeals to me about the Dove brand. Average packaging, down-to-earth marketing and a slightly outdated image. Nonetheless, I’m obsessed with their original line.
There are brands that stay with you for a lifetime. But from a distance. Like the ones you find in your mum’s bathroom cabinet. Or on grandma’s bedside table. Or in the miserably long commercial break between two trashy episodes of «Judge Judy» or «Are you hot?». Nivea, for example, is one of those brands. And Dove. I’m very familiar with them, but apart from a few short experiments, they’ve never really been part of my skincare routine.
The journey begins
The other day on Tiktok – I know, I know – a creator recommended the Dove Beauty Cream Bar. A white bar of soap. Boooring! Yet she convinced me I needed it. The Cream Bar is designed to gently cleanse your hands and body in the shower without drying them out and it smells good. I bought a double pack and fell in love with the scent. The original Dove fragrance. What followed was bordering on obsession.

First, lets go back to Hamburg. On our team outing we made a stop at Budni, a German drugstore chain. My editorial colleagues and I roamed the narrow shelves and excitedly shared our purchase recommendations with each other. Then I spotted a cream jar that couldn’t be more inconspicuous. I was surprised I even noticed it. It was the «Rich Nourishment» by Dove. The name? Also not outstanding. «I wonder if it smells as great as your soap at home?» whispers the little devil on my shoulder that’s definitely not the one in my purse. After an indecisive back and forth, my hand reaches for the coins in my purse. It’s done, bought – and no regrets. The nourishing ceramide cream provides a lot of moisture and smells just like the boring soap too. Divinely fresh. And the combination of the two? A match made in cosmetic heaven.

Now hold the edge of your seats because... there’s also a matching deodorant, which landed in my lap just a few days after my Budni detour. A creamy stick that wraps my armpits in a velvety, nourishing coat.

The original Dove fragrance
Obviously Dove’s perfume has fogged my senses. But what does the stuff actually smell of? I asked Dove , because I couldn’t really make it out. The fragrance is described as pure, clean and powdery with a floral note. Works for me. The base is woody with amber and powdery musk. Rose, ylang ylang and jasmine are at the heart and the top note is fruity with cloves and geranium.
One last tip, then I’m done raving. Promise. Do you remember my review of Fresh Laundry by Clean, a perfume that smells like fresh laundry? This perfume complements Dove’s boring troupe so well that they form a true dream team. I picture Fresh Laundry being the mummy, who opens her arms for the three little care doves to lovingly snuggle into.
So now, the brand I once eyed from afar sits in my own mirror cabinet. On my bedside table. And when we meet I still feel like it’s an advertisement. Only now it’s an add on Tiktok. TV’s so yesterday.
There are over 80,000 beauty products and counting on the Galaxus website. That’s quite a range. And why I like to regularly share my favourites – from a selection of both novelties and classics.

As a massive Disney fan, I see the world through rose-tinted glasses. I worship series from the 90s and consider mermaids a religion. When I’m not dancing in glitter rain, I’m either hanging out at pyjama parties or sitting at my make-up table. P.S. I love you, bacon, garlic and onions.
