According to the definition, it does not matter whether renewable or non-renewable, i.e., fossil resources are used for production. Under real environmental conditions, biodegradable plastics gradually break down into microplastics, which only decompose very slowly into their chemical components. Oxo-degradable plastics have also been enriched with additives that break down into microplastic particles when exposed to heat or sunlight, but these are hardly degraded.
