Your top picks: kettles

In winter, even die-hard cold water drinkers like myself start drinking tea. And what's more convenient than a kettle? That’s why I set off on a mission to unveil your ten favourite kettles.

I’m not a fan of coffee. I'm not a fan of coffee. I enjoy the smell of freshly brewed coffee beans on a Sunday morning and I also like ice cream with coffee flavour. But coffee itself just doesn't do it for me. Yet, as I enjoy a hot drink on a cold winter day (and I don't drink alcohol either), tea is my drink. And many of our users seem to enjoy a cup of tea, too: «Kettle» was one of the most popular search terms on our shop in the last there months. So I’ve trawled through our range of kettles and picked out the ten favourites of our Galaxus Community.

The versatile one

The CX 120 by Turmix includes a tea strainer. This allows you to fill in your tea before the water is boiling and let the tea brew while the water is heating up. Of course, you can also use the kettle without integrated strainer if you're not making tea. This is a true allrounder!

The smart one

This Xiamoi product is controlled via app. Want to heat water directly to 100 degrees and then cool it down to a lower temperature? Or rather heat it directly to a specific temperature before it boils? Whichever you prefer, your mobile phone will let you know once the water has reached the desired temperature. Clever piece of Chinese engineering.

The grey one

This appliance boils water in no time at all and keeps it nice and warm when needed. With a capacity of 1.7 litres, this kettle by Philips is a handy cooking companion - it's sure to boil water for your pasta faster than on the stove. Looking for exactly 80, 90, 95 or 100 degrees? Philips makes it possible.

Stelton's «Emma» isn't only a kettle, it's also a design object. It cuts a fine shape anywhere in your home: no need to hide it away in a corner. Put it on display on your dining table or kitchen – it’s all about the looks after all.

The precise one

Heat up your water to any temperature between 25 and 100 degrees. Thanks to the built-in liquid-crystal display and a variety of buttons, you're able to set exactly the temperature you need. What I like: I've always wanted to know the difference between water that's 56 and 93 degrees warm.

The transparent one

WMF has also equipped one of their kettles with a tea strainer. This compact product heats water to anything between 60 and 100 degrees and keeps it warm when needed. The large glass body of this tea pot means you can see everything that's going on inside while a filter makes sure you enjoy a cup of tea without any residues.

The affordable one

At under 40 francs (price on 18 December 2018), this Trisa kettle has a capacity of 1.2 litres, boasts a silver design and has a covered heating element, which makes cleaning easier. With its 360-degree base, this kettle is flexible and uncomplicated.

The sleek one

With its plain titanium-coloured stainless steel housing, this Philips kettle blends into any home. The straightforward design also makes it very easy to use. According to the manufacturer, this robust kettle was developed to last a long time. Sounds like a perfect product for the Swiss Army, doesn't it?

The hipster

The old-school design of this kettle reminds me of the 50s. It's like a piece of jewellery from times long gone, which still seems to fit into every kitchen. Despite its retro look, you don't have to go without the latest technology: This electric kettle provides 2400 watts of power, a water capacity of 1.7 litres and a spout that prevents any mess when pouring.

The Rolls Royce

This KitchenAid kettle looks like a steam boiler. I can almost hear it whistle when the steam escapes. KitchenAid also combines old-school design elements with modern technology: This kettle heats water to 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 95 or 100 degrees and the double-walled construction keeps it nice and warm.
