Why this item of clothing is more exciting than a generic tank top
The silhouette’s the same, but the effect is completely different. Why it’s worth stepping out of your comfort zone once in a while and swapping that good old tank top for a waistcoat.
Nowadays we rarely put time and thought into our outfit. Most mornings, we reach into our wardrobe, eyes half closed, and fish out the same items time and time again. A kind of uniform we feel good in because it’s familiar, tried and tested and uncomplicated. But sometimes, all it takes is a little thinking outside the box to truly change things up. Take the tank top, for example.
In summer, the sleeveless top with its wide straps is one of my absolute outfit favourites. Not least, because there’s not much fabric too it, which is great in the summertime. But also, because it’s wonderfully versatile. It works on its own, as a base under a light, flowing shirt or made from knitted material – even for occasions that aren’t happening at the swimming pool or brunch. Although I truly love this simple wardrobe classic, at the end of the day it’s just plain and simple. That’s why I occasionally replace the top with an item that offers the same benefits but looks dressier.

The silhouette’s right, the arms bare. But instead of looking sporty, you’ll be giving off stylish and serious vibes with a waistcoat. But just the right amount of serious to still look cool if you’re pairing your top with baggy jeans in the style of Luciane Sakon. What more could you want in the summertime?

You don’t necessarily need to go for a model that’s part of a trouser suit. Waistcoats made from denim, linen or bouclé also make for great tank top alternatives. All you need to do now, is find the one that’s right for you.
Always in the mood for good hits, great trips and clinking drinks.
