What exactly is Teddy?

Teddy... bear? In the "What is it?" series, I explain fashion terms that you've probably heard of but don't know exactly what they mean.
As soon as someone gives me an irritated look when I talk shop about the latest fashion trends, it's time again for "What is it?" In this series, I explain fashion glossaries that you don't necessarily need to know, but that you can use to score points with anyone interested in fashion or in small talk. The fourth instalment is about: Teddy.
Teddy is short for teddy fleece. It is a synthetic woven fur made from cotton or polyester. During its production, the small loops of thread on the surface of the fabric are cut open and roughened. This creates the fibre pile typical of plush, which retains heat. This function makes faux fur particularly exciting for jackets and functional clothing.

Teddy coats were often seen last year. This season, they have finally scaled the fashion Olympus and are being worn by men and women alike. I'm delighted because this is finally a fashion trend that doesn't make me feel cold. A coat with the same name as a soft toy can only be cosy and warm. Thanks to the hype, it's no surprise that there's hardly a brand that doesn't have a bear coat in its range. The good thing about it: you don't have to spend a fortune on it, as it looks great in every price segment.

Are you a fan of chunky knit jumpers like me? Then you'll get your money's worth with this cosy coat. Because the crux of such a voluminous top is that it makes you look like a sausage in combination with a tight-fitting coat. The teddy coat, on the other hand, is wide enough. Skinny jeans or leather trousers create a beautiful silhouette. If you like to experiment and want to break the style rule of "wide at the top and tight at the bottom", you can also combine the voluminous coat with wide-cut woollen trousers. When it comes to colour, natural tones such as brown, beige or grey are very popular. With a colourful pink or red model, however, you can bring a little colour into the dreary winter routine.
