What can I do with all my holiday photos?

Is printing your holiday snaps old-fashioned? Not at all! Here are four ideas to keep your memories from rotting on the shelf. And DIY fans won't be left out!

Idea #1: Print your photos on Polaroid paper

If you have a Polaroid or other camera that makes instant prints, skip straight to our second idea. It's a perfect format for an album or memory box (see below). Or give the photos as gifts and write a personalised message in permanent marker. [[image:6301581]]

I printed my polaroid prints at photoloveprints.com (site in German and English), a company based in Hamburg. There are many providers of this kind, but I found this site particularly easy to use, the prices very fair, and what can I say about the 3-day delivery time after ordering, which is also free to Switzerland? You can order simple or stylised prints. Coloured backgrounds, personalised cards, gift boxes, everything is possible. You can even print the camera type, settings, date and location on the back with one click (provided the camera records GPS data). [[image:6301604]]

Idea #2: Stick your photos to your fridge

I know, my magnets are a bit special. I'm used to having them right under my nose, it's art after all. For your holiday photos, I'd recommend using simple magnets instead, they'll show your photos off better. Obviously, your fridge must be magnetic. I wouldn't recommend taping them up. 😊

This idea gives you a lot of freedom; you can even change magnets regularly. Gather photos from a specific trip or develop a theme, such as the rainforest or the colour blue. This will take a bit longer than simply pasting up photos from your last holiday, but the result will be much more personal and artistic. Photos of children are really cute, and sunsets will appeal to the romantics among us. Match the photos to the theme of your next party... Effect guaranteed!

Idea #3: Create a photo album

I'm not a fan of all these more or less automated photo albums that you can create yourself and order on the internet. I feel that holiday photos are personal memories that should be kept on paper. How many times have I forgotten where I took this or that photo of a palm tree? To make sure this never happens again, choose a beautiful book, a notebook or a real photo album. My favourites? Moleskine, timeless, sturdy and simply beautiful. Preferably choose the unlined version.

Once you've found your album, decide how many images you want to place on each page and the total number of photos the album will contain. Classify them and think about the captions that will accompany them. You don't have to write a novel, but these anecdotes will make you smile every time you read them. And now it's time to start gluing! Coloured tape adds a cool touch. You'll see, you'll love your album for years to come. It's also a great gift idea.

Idea #4: DIY a memory box

Do you love DIY, but not sorting photos and writing anecdotes to go with them? I've got the solution: a memory box! All you need is a nice box with enough space to hold your photos and memories.

If DIY isn't your thing - I totally hear you! - find a pretty box that you don't have to decorate. Simply stick your favourite photo on the lid and get back into the holiday mood. Then place your photos and souvenirs in the box. I always put tickets and entry cards (to remind me of the activities I've done), notes or coins, stones, other fun little objects - in short, anything that makes me smile. Depending on the time you have available, you can include a few anecdotes. All you have to do is write them on the back of the photos with an indelible pen. And that's it, your memory box is complete!

An extra tip: you always have too many photos?

The magic word: classify. It's best to start while you're on holiday by deleting the botched photos already. You can still take a few better-framed ones to compensate. Don't worry, you'll still have plenty to sort out when you get back. I use the star system: I give each photo between 0 and 5 stars. No retouching software required. Save your photos in a special folder on your computer or tablet. Then create up to five sub-folders and place your photos in them according to the number of stars you give them. The important thing is to do it quickly and trust your first impression. I delete all the photos in sub-folders "0" to "2", without looking at them again. I open sub-folder "3" again, then delete its contents. I keep only the photos to which I've given 4 or 5 stars. You can't print them all? Select from those to which you have given 5 stars.
