Unicron: the largest Transformer ever is looking for backers

Hasbro has launched its own crowdfunding platform. The first project: a giant transformer. In his robot mode, Unicron will be almost 80 cm tall.
«There are moments that define a collection» is what Hasbro writes in its first campaign of their very own crowdfunding platform Haslab. Transformers fans have the chance to promise the toy company money as so-called «backers» – if at least 8,000 backers are found, the largest transformer to date will be built and shipped.
Fans can get their own Unicron.
70 cm high, 80 cm wide
Unicron has many names in the Transformers universe: The Dark God, The Chaos Bringer, The Planet Eater. The giant that transforms itself into an entire planet brings with it the fear of absolute annihilation. His only mission is to consuming the multiverse.

How fitting that he converts into a terrifying planet that has a diameter of 76 cm in this crowdfunding toy version. Convert Unicron into a robot and he’s 691.3 mm high and 783.6 mm wide. To put things into perspective: the largest Optimus Prime to date measures just 450 mm in height.

The toy engineers at Hasbro have come up with an impressive toy for Unicron: the model has more than 50 points of articulation. In addition, the size allows the designers to produce «the most accurate Unicron figure ever created».
What’s also exciting to see are the stages of development described on the official page – from scribblings to building plan.
Unicron: Orson Welles’ goodbye
Unicron first appeared in «Transformers: The Movie», where he was voiced by acting legend Orson Welles. It was his last part before he died. The actor later said he hated the film, could not remember the names of the characters and described the film as «a big toy who attacks a bunch of smaller toys».
But Unicron doesn't do things by halves in the movie: after Optimus Prime sacrifices his life to stop Megatron, Unicron gives him new life. Megatron continues to scare the galaxy as Galvatron. Only when it turns out that the cyber planet Unicron is actually a robot that wants to devour the home planet of the Transformers, Cybertron, Galvatron agrees to put old disputes aside. But Unicron hasn’t left anything to chance and takes control of Galvatron. It's now up to Hot Rod, as Rodimus Prime, to save the galaxy.
The crowdfunding campaign ends on 31 August 2019. So far, around 940 backers have decided to buy a Unicron.
