Balitea star Simon: "My rhinestone swimming trunks will be used soon"
by Martin Jungfer
We're a crew of opinionated, independent, creative lateral thinkers. Conditions for being part of this wild ride? Boundless curiosity and a good pinch of courage and initiative.
How did good old Jack Sparrow put it? «Take what you can! Give nothing back!» Traditionally, a pirate ship lurks in perilous waters – there's not enough loot elsewhere. Trading online is as frenetic as the Strait of Malacca. To be successful, we have to be prepared to set ambitious targets. Even if there's a risk that we'll fail.
We've come together from across the seven seas. Some of us did very different things in former lives; others have years of experience in their fields. What sets us apart is the unbending will to work together on a mission. Together, we are creating a culture where mistakes aren't punished with having to walk the plank. We don't take ourselves too seriously, as the important character trait of a pirate is nonchalance. Pirates can't embellish things. They say it how it is. Appearances and frippery? They're for landlubbers. Our language is honest and full of respect, self-deprecation and humour. We interact as equals, from trainees to the CEO. Everyone on our ship knows the strengths of their teammates. We discuss important decisions amongst ourselves and consult the captain.
The needs of our customers are constantly changing. This is why we take inspiration from the new and live out our passion for discovery. We find inspiration in our free time, on shore leave, when reading and while browsing online. The smallest thing can rapidly grow into something big here. A new feature in the shop? A new ad campaign? Improved logistics processes? The spark for changes like these can come from anywhere. Every Galaxus and digitec pirate has signed up for a life full of change, possibilities and challenges – and to leave bureaucracy and routine behind them. Instead, we work on initiative. The captain calling the shots and everyone obeying? Sorry, but pirates don't work like that. We are constantly searching for simple, uncomplicated solutions.
If we secure another round of precious loot and have a successful quarter or six months, we raise the roof. But, shall we let you in on a trade secret? We can do just fine with our booty too. We don't waste everything straight away on the next stint of shore leave; we invest, pick up best practices and make strategic plans. But keep it to yourself. We have a reputation to maintain!
Be it at our warehouse in Wohlen, in our shops or among the accountants: In this jungle that is Digitec Galaxus, I swing from vine to vine, combing through the undergrowth on the lookout for juicy stories.
