Kristen Stewart reignites my loafer love at the Oscars
Everyone is talking about Will Smith's slipped hand. I'm only interested in Kristen Stewart's feet. Because they were in socks and flat loafers.
The Internet seems to agree: The eclat between "Best Actor" Will Smith and presenter Chris Rock was the questionable highlight of the 2022 Academy Awards. Personally, other highlights come up short for me. The shirtless Timothée Chalamet, for example. The micro blouse by Zendaya. The sock and loafer combo by Kristen Stewart.
Yep, that's right. The "Spencer" star was still in dangerously high heels on the Red Carpet, but was spotted in completely different footwear right after.

I hardly ever wear anything other than sneakers or flat boots on my own feet. I usually find high heels awkward, uncomfortable and unnecessary. So the fact that Kristen Stewart goes against the grain of the standard dress code from "women please wear a dress and heels" sends hearts flying from my eyes. I remember 2018, when the actress slipped out of her pumps in the middle of the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival and strolled on barefoot without further ado. This year, she had provided casual replacements.
A polarizing love affair
The liaison of loafer and sock, however, divided opinions. Some say: Faux pas 3000. I say: Bring it on! Audrey Hepburn wore them in the 1957 film "Funny Face," and Michael Jackson moonwalked across stages in white stockings and black shoes. Today, influencers like Emma Chamberlain and Leia Sfez flit through my Insta feed in them.

I scroll, like and realize: exactly the addition to my heel-less repertoire I've been waiting for. Especially now that the temperatures haven't settled down to ankle-free levels yet. Plus, my numerous style role models make it clear that socks and loafers work with pants - and it doesn't matter if they're short or long - as well as skirts and dresses. And whether it's polarizing or not, no one can deny me what made it to the Academy Awards in everyday life. Can they?
Always in the mood for good hits, great trips and clinking drinks.
