Get your Diesel jeans out again - the hype is back
Attention, now it's getting nostalgic. Another fire from the past is making a comeback.
Trends and brands, which are now for the repeated time part of my life, I can hardly count on two hands. This means, firstly, that I'm older than I'd like to be. And secondly: It's worthwhile to carefully store selected favorite pieces, so that sooner or later they can come out of the woodwork for their second spring. You and I can do the same now with our Diesel trouvailles.
Yep, the brand that was founded by Renzo Rosso (66) in Molvena in the late 1970s and shared the denim Olympus with Pepe Jeans, Mavi and Guess in the 90s is slithering back onto my fashion radar at full speed. This is no coincidence, of course, but the work of the new creative director. Since October 2020, 39-year-old Belgian Glenn Martens has held the post and is currently being hailed as one of this year's most important designers. Dua Lipa, Kylie Jenner, Megan Thee Stallion, Toni Braxton, Julia Fox, ... The list of Martens' celebrity fans is almost as long as the Diesel Library Collection's "1978 Bootcut and Flare Jeans," which I'm particularly partial to.

The fact that the Italian denim giant is heading for a brilliant comeback under the pen of the virtuoso Belgian can be proven not only by his followers, but also by the numbers. The fashion search engine Lyst just published its first quarterly report of the year. Among the 20 "Hottest Brands of 2022," Diesel is ranked 15th among luxury brands such as Balenciaga, Gucci, Loewe and Prada - and has thus jumped 31 places since the last evaluation! The last time the streetwear label Off-White made such a huge leap in the trend ranking was in 2017.
What's new with Diesel 2.0?
The characteristic mohawk from the 1990s has long since disappeared from the catwalk collections, but Diesel is still emulating its image as a "sexy denim brand" in the 2020s. This is made possible by dangerous miniskirts, skimpy bustier tops, low-hanging pants and, in addition to the classic denim look, colorful statement pieces like the faux fur coat made of ... well, jeans.

The fall/winter collection '22 - already the second under Marten's direction - with its perfectly seasoned mix of pop and high fashion, nostalgia and futurism, makes you want one thing above all: more! But if the new high-fashion look is still a bit too wild for you, you don't have to sit out the trend. Let's start the new Diesel era together with a little more everyday wear.
Always in the mood for good hits, great trips and clinking drinks.
