Behind the scenes
The new prime time for online shopping is the evening
by Alex Hämmerli
Who wants to wait outside in the cold just because there are too many people in the shop? We decided to give our half-frozen customers first aid with raclette and punch. But it wasn't that bad after all.
In our experience, the queue in front of the shops is much longer than usual on Black Friday. The editorial team has come up with something for the shop in Zurich, where the rush is greatest. We have mushroom heaters in our range and our gourmet Simon Balissat recently tested a "real" raclette grill. What could be better than trying out the heat dispensers and doing something good for our valued customers in the process? Exactly!
I made a time-lapse video in anticipation of the first rush at lunchtime. However, the rush was limited compared to last year. At least for the time being.
But that didn't stop our raclette expert Simon from giving it his all.
In the afternoon, Swiss television was on site. Not bad. And an employee of an unnamed private radio station parked in the no-parking zone. But well, so did everyone else.
LG's 65-inch sets were sold out in no time at all. He here got hold of another one. We waited anxiously to see if the big storm would come in the evening.
As dusk slowly fell, we were still ready with punch and raclette. And now at least one of the heating elements was working. In the morning, the fuse blew as soon as we tried to switch it on. Yes, we had tested it beforehand. But not all the checkouts in the shop were working at the time of the test. Today, of course, they are.
And then it "finally" happened: People had to queue all the way outside to even get a waiting ticket. Our catering campaign had paid off after all.
Many customers asked after receiving the catering how much it cost. So we could have made even more sales, but we're not like that. It is Black Friday after all.
Best wishes and see you next time!
