Galaxus launches new home internet package

Experts and the Community give their verdict on Galaxus Internet

Galaxus Internet, our new baby, isn’t even two weeks old. But the fibre-optic internet package has blown our expectations out of the water. The initial response we’ve received is helping us develop the service even further.
Our magazine article on the launch of Galaxus Internet has amassed over 500 likes and almost 250 comments. That makes it one of the most-read, most-commented pieces published this year.
This interest in information has translated into a high number of customers opting for a Galaxus Internet plan. On competitive grounds, Andreas Kundert, Head of Galaxus Mobile, Internet and TV, doesn’t reveal the exact figures. What he can say is, «Our own high expectations were exceeded ninefold in the first week alone.»
An early review of the plan published by comparison site moneyland.ch might also have contributed to the flurry of sign-ups. Here’s what telecoms expert Ralf Beyeler had to say about Galaxus Internet after comparing it to plans offered by other providers:
The new Galaxus home internet offer is going to stir up the market. A price-tag of 39 francs per month for high-speed internet is very low.
Beyeler also praises the «customer-friendly terms and conditions». Almost every internet provider in Switzerland operates with minimum contract durations of 12 or 24 months. Galaxus Internet customers, on the other hand, aren’t bound to these contractual minimums. If you terminate your contract because you’re dissatisfied with the service or if you’re moving house, it’ll take effect at the end of the following month.
What the Community wants
When Galaxus Internet launched, Andreas was working overtime. He patiently answered comment-section questions arising from the magazine article, and explained which special customer requests we might fulfil in future. Andreas Kundert made a guest appearance there to shed some light on those exciting details.

Address database error
The first step on the way to a Galaxus Internet plan is the line checker. This tool is supported by an address database, more precisely the Swiss Federal Register of Buildings and Dwellings (page in German). Thanks to feedback from the Community, we now know there are more errors in this database than we thought. The tool sometimes fails to find house numbers, then incorrectly states that fibre isn’t available at the given address. With this in mind, we’ve modified our line checker. You can now report errors directly to us without having to write a separate e-mail.
OTO ID in the wrong place
To make fibre-optic internet operational, you need the OTO ID typically noted on your connection box. In the early days, however, we had a small number of reports from customers whose OTO ID was registered at an address other than their own. This error can now also be flagged up to us directly.
Connections from non-public providers
Unfortunately, not everyone with a fibre-optic connection can switch to Galaxus Internet. Some connections are registered with non-public providers, which don’t allow you to switch to an alternative provider.
