Equip yourself for your survival adventure

Survival is the art of surviving in the wilderness with as little equipment as possible. Proper preparation for a survival adventure is very important, especially if you have never done anything like this before. Here you can find out how to prepare properly and recognise dangers in advance.
Nowadays, it's hard to imagine surviving without technical aids. The exciting thing about a survival adventure is that you learn to focus on your own skills and use them to survive in the wilderness.
7 tips that will help you on your survival adventure:
1. area selection
First of all, it is important to choose the right area. If your adventure will take place in a forest, then you need to choose an area that is not too large so that you don't get lost. There should be forest paths or recognisable places in the forest section so that you can orientate yourself by them.

2. choice of partner
The adventure should not take place alone, at least one partner should be present. If something happens, the partner could then make the emergency call. Before setting off, another person who knows the exact location must also be informed . 3. Choice of clothing
Make sure you wear clothing in an "onion layer system" so that you are prepared for any temperature. You should avoid synthetic fibres, as these can melt in contact with sparks in an open fire.
4. food
Remember to take dry food with you - emergency food in the form of nuts and dried fruit.
5. Edible plants
Use plants that you find in the forest and that are edible. Before you eat them, however, you must wash them thoroughly. Here is a short list:
- Dandelion
- Daisies
- Meadow foamwort
- Garlic heather
- Stinging nettle
- Strawberry (wild)
6. poisonous plants
On the other hand, there are of course berries and mushrooms that you should never eat as they are poisonous. Identifying plants is not always easy and if you are unsure, it is better to play it safe and leave it alone.

7. equipment
Make sure you have the right equipment with you. The more experienced you are, the fewer of these products you will need to take with you .
- Overnight stay
For starters, you'll be happy if you have a tent, sleeping bag and trekking mat with you and don't have to use branches and leaves to create a roof and a dry surface yourself.
A good trekking rucksack has space for all your equipment.
- Food
The Alpinist 2 cooking system is a complete system for cooking and eating for two people, equipped with double-walled stainless steel iso-cups and DeepDish plates.
The knife, fork and spoon are heat-resistant and come with a practical accessory carabiner for easy attachment to your rucksack.
- Water
In addition to food, water is the second basic need you must fulfil on your adventure. Never drink water from streams, rivers or lakes without first sterilising it, as our intestinal flora is no longer used to these bacteria and would react with diarrhoea and vomiting. Fresh spring water is free from germs and bacteria and can be drunk without hesitation, everything else must be boiled or sterilised with the Guardian water steriliser, for example.
The attachable aluminium cup of the water bottle is also suitable for boiling water. The nylon pouch supplied can be attached to the belt.
- Cooking/fire pit
You will need a fire pit for cooking. A shovel will be helpful if you want to dig a small trench for a fire pit. Then place stones around the fire to reduce the risk of burns. Of course, you will need to collect the wood yourself and split it if necessary. You'll be grateful for a kindling to start with.
- Light
If the fire goes out and you are not yet very experienced, an LED lamp will be very helpful to still have light. The torch is important if you are out and about at night, e.g. because you are going on a night hike or are going to be away from the fireplace for a short time at night.
Know and avoid dangers
The most important points at a glance:
- Many people are afraid of wild animals. However, many animals, such as wild boars or wolves, are rather shy and avoid contact with humans .- If you encounter wild animals, it is important to remain calm and not run away in panic.
- The most dangerous animals are ticks, but you can protect yourself from them.
- The greatest danger comes from hunger, thirst, cold/heat and injuries - you can also counteract these points with the right equipment.
Conclusion: Never take any unnecessary risks!
