No drilling required – Tesa organiser for your kitchen
by Simon Balissat
In the kitchen, a dull blade can quickly make life difficult. If you crush more than you cut, the solution is in your cupboard.
Today I'm going to concoct a delicious bruschetta. For this, you need some good bread and onions, but above all some juicy tomatoes, which need to be broken down into small cubes. In theory at least, because with the knife in my hands, I crush them more than I cut them, the dull blade flattening the tomatoes. So it needs sharpening. The problem? I can't find my sharpener since moving house.
If you're in the same situation, or if you don't have a sharpener or a grinding wheel, there's a plan B available to everyone. Take a ceramic mug from the kitchen cupboard and turn it upside down. There should be an unglazed ring at the bottom of the cup. If not, get another one. This untreated piece can be used as a sharpening stone. Simply run the blade from back to front, holding it at an angle of around 15 degrees. This method should allow you to cut tomatoes without any problems.
As this technique is an alternative, in the long run you should invest in a suitable sharpener. Want another good idea worth your time? Then click on the "Follow the author" button so you don't miss any DIY tips.
