Digitec Playground Cup with "Rocket League": This is how spectacular the final was at Herofest

For the first time, a Digitec Playground final took place live in front of an audience. Visitors to the Herofest got to see spectacular "Rocket League" matches.
Last weekend, gaming, cosplay and fantasy fans from all over Switzerland made the pilgrimage to Bern to be part of the fifth edition of Herofest. As every year, there were first-class e-sports competitions to watch on the large Mainstage.
For the first time, a final of the Digitec Playground Cup also took place live in front of the audience. You can find all the highlights of the final here or watch the broadcast in full (the Grümpi tournament starts at 0:12:51 and the Pro tournament starts at 1:52:51):
A tight box in the pro final
In the Pro Final, "mYinsanity" and "Les Carbes Germanophones" faced each other on the main stage. The match was played in "best of five" mode - the first to get three victories wins
.
For "mYinsanity", these crazy car footballers took to the virtual battlefield:
- Kevin "Keever" Eggenberger (Grand Champion III, Division I - global rank: 2,479 - top 0.1%)
- Lukas "meeloox" Nüesch (Grand Champion III, Division II - global rank: 2'322 - top 0.1%)
- Alessandro "Squixxl" Laumanns (Grand Champion I, Division III - global rank: 23,897 - top 0.7%)
"Les Carbes Germanophones" represented French-speaking Switzerland with the following riders:
- Sam Mihno (Grand Champion II, Division IV - global rank: 4'249 - top 0.2%)
- Jonathan "Karma" Ferreira Santos (Grand Champion II, Division III - global rank: 6'069 - top 0.2%)
- Genovese Kenzo (Grand Champion II, Division III - global rank: 5'734 - top 0.2%)
In the run-up, there was no clear favourite. Our two casters Stephan "Strobey" Schneider and Jens "Syntax" Hoffmann predicted a duel on equal terms. And that is exactly how it turned out. The visitors to the Herofest got to see five hard-hitting "Rocket League" matches at the highest level.
The second game was particularly exciting, in which "Les Carbes Germanophones" were unable to score despite constant high pressure on the opponent's goal and countless top-class chances, and were defeated 2:0. The most goals were scored in the fourth game. In the 4:2 victory of "mYinsanity", both teams went all out on the offensive - accordingly, they neglected their defence.
In the all-decisive fifth game, the score was tied 1-1 for a long time. With 20 seconds to go, "Kenzo" from "Les Carbes Germanophones" was able to close the bag with a spectacular volley goal and prevent overtime. The icing on the cake was put by "Minho" in the literal last second of the game with a beautiful goal to make it 3-1 for "Les Carbes Germanophones".
.
A noteworthy side note: By winning the Digitec Playground Cup, "Minho" picked up his third tournament win in three days. Before that, he proved his skills at the Switzerlan and the TCS E-Sports League. Hats off to this achievement!

Unique result at the Grümpi tournament
The Grümpi tournament with casual players was also held on the main stage. The "Rocketeers" competed against the "Humble Eagles". It was also played in "best of five" mode. The highest allowed ranking of the participants for the Grümpi was Platinum III. The current season as well as the peak ranking of the past two seasons were taken into account. "LYSS3R" reached its current ranking only after the qualifications.
For the "Rocketeers", the following players raced across the Mainstage:
- Timo "LYSS3R" Lysser (Diamond I, Division II)
- Timo "Toxi" Dill (Platinum II, Division II)
- Lukas "DrSwissRespect" Hänzi (Gold I, Division IV)
For the "Humble Eagles" these eagles flew to Bern for the final:
- Rico "Ric0la13" Viva (Platinum III, Division III)
- Jannik "Desty22" Helmich (Silver II, Division II)
- Simon "Avatar" Rohrbach (Gold III, Division II)
The "Rocketeers" saw each other in real life for the first time at the Grümpi finals. The "Humble Eagles", on the other hand, knew each other beforehand and are a relatively well-rehearsed "Rocket League" team. Accordingly, they have taken on a slight favourite role in the run-up to the final.
After an unsuccessful start with a 1:5 defeat, the "Rocketeers" played on a par with the "Humble Eagles" in the following matches. It was particularly close in the last match, which even went into overtime. Nevertheless, it was not enough for a victory. So the "Humble Eagles" won the Grümpi final with a deserved 3:0 overall result.
Grümpi final result: "Rocketeers" 0 - "Humble Eagles" 3
.
- Game 1: "Rocketeers" 1 - "Humble Eagles" 5
- Game 2: "Rocketeers" 3 - "Humble Eagles" 6
- Game 3 after Overtime: "Rocketeers" 1 - "Humble Eagles" 2

My love of video games was unleashed at the tender age of five by the original Gameboy. Over the years, it's grown in leaps and bounds.
