digitec connect mobile subscription now with MultiSIM option
by Alex Hämmerli
The mobile phone subscription digitec connect now also works without a SIM card. digitec is the first Swiss mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) to offer customers a solution for eSIM-enabled smartphones. This had previously only been possible with network operators Sunrise, Salt and Swisscom.
Customers asked for it and digitec connect delivered. From now on, digitec's mobile subscription also works with embedded SIM or eSIM for short. eSIM makes it much easier to change mobile subscription provider. All it takes is scanning a QR code. On top of this, the physical SIM slot is kept free for other cards, such as international prepaid cards. eSIM chips are a standard feature in smartphones by major manufacturers nowadays.
digitec connect is the first Swiss mobile phone provider (MVNO) to offer its customers an eSIM solution. This had previously only been possible with the three network operators Sunrise, Salt and Swisscom. According to Apple, digitec connect is the second MVNO to offer an eSIM service in Europe after Spanish Pepephone. To offer eSIM, providers rely on smartphone manufacturers to give them access.
New digitec connect customers can simply select «I’d like to activate an eSIM card» when they sign up. Existing customers can switch from SIM to eSIM by contacting the customer service team. The option is added to the user Cockpit at the beginning of July.
In a first stage, the new digitec connect offer will work for eSIM-enabled smartphones and tablets. A solution for smartwatches will follow in summer.
