With Decathlon on board, Galaxus is ramping up its range with products from the world’s largest sports dealer. This is Galaxus’s answer to a rising demand for sports equipment. The last five years have seen a sevenfold increase in sales of sports articles.

Decathlon is now selling fitness equipment such as treadmills, rowing machines and cross trainers on Galaxus. But also pretty much everything else any athlete’s heart might desire: outdoor equipment (Quechua and Forclaz), basketball, table tennis, biking (Van rysel, Triban, Btwin and Rockrider), water sports and winter sports. And even smart watches to track your progress. Decathlon is currently represented with over 14,000 products. And because of the high demand, more will be added over time: Since the beginning of the pandemic, sports articles have been flying off our shelves. In terms of sales, fitness bands, yoga mats and dumbbells were the bestsellers in 2021.

Zooming in on sales figures of large fitness equipment last year, bike trainers, exercise bikes and power stations have proven to be highly popular. «The gold medal, however, went to the treadmill,» says Martin Maissen, Leader Category Management Sports at Galaxus. «Last year, treadmill sales were up 120% compared to 2020.»

It appears that quite a few customers have turned their backs on gyms and, instead, invested in a home workout setup. Maybe exercising at home has grown on some people. Other reasons for the home workout boom could also be the fear of catching Covid or needing a valid certificate to get into gyms.

More sportsgear, s'il vous plaît

In view of the demand, the collaboration between Decathlon and Galaxus is perfectly timed. The French sports goods titan operates 1,697 shops in 60 countries and is now offering part of its range on Galaxus. With this collaboration, Galaxus is giving its sports range a serious boost. This means customers now have even more products to choose from and the growth seen in recent years can continue.

It remains to be seen if this sports equipment boom will keep up or fizzle out. Either way, January will also be a strong sales month, as purchasing treadmills and other fitness equipment is one way to implement our sports New Year's resolutions.

We’d love to hear from you! Do you prefer working out in the comfort of your own home, at the gym or outdoors? What do you think of the Decathlon range now available at Galaxus?
