Apart from magical accessories, the "Vans × Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon" collection offers everything your heart desires
If the first thing you think of when you think of sailor tops is not Donald Duck, but a very ambitious blonde with big eyes and psychic powers, you've come to the right place. Because the Californian sneaker brand Vans has just launched the collection of your (and my) dreams.
When Sailor Moon hit German TV in the mid-1990s, I was 10, and didn't need much convincing. A girl with long blonde hair, a talking cat and magic accessories, who can transform herself from a (admittedly somewhat whiny) schoolgirl into a superhero with supernatural powers? Well, I was so on that one. "Power of the moon mist, make aauuuuf," I shouted with Bunny "Sailor Moon" Tsukino in chorus. The fact that I didn't rise into the air like her, flashing, blinking bubbles and waving hair, to transform into a scantily clad warrior, did nothing to diminish my love for the series.
Exactly when my interest in the anime heroine waned then, I can no longer clearly trace. One thing is for sure, I haven't watched a single episode of Sailor Moon in over 20 years, and I haven't given the series a second thought. A fatal mistake, as it seems to me. Because Bunny Tsukino and her Girl Gang (Sailor Jupiter, Sailor Venus, Sailor Pluto, ...) are more popular than ever - or even last in the 1990s. Just this April, Parisian brand Maje launched a capsule collection in honor of the fearless moon princess.

And today, June 10, skate-savvy streetwear giant Vans is throwing its "Vans × Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon" collection on the market. Somewhat random these fashion declarations of love? Not if you ask my colleague Natalie, whose heart still burns for the 90s anime heroine.
Im Vergleich zu Disney war Sailor-Moon-Merch bis vor Kurzem noch geradezu Mangelware. Ich hab mir meine chemisch duftenden Fan-Shirts früher in fragwürdigen Läden im Ausland zusammengesucht. Deshalb feiere ich neue offizielle Kollektionen umso mehr! Ich hatte übrigens sofort Herzchen in den Augen, als ich den violetten Rucksack von Vans entdeckt habe: kitschig und oldschool, genau wie der Anime selbst. Die Serie ist für mich bis heute die gelungenste Kombi aus überdramatisierter Girlpower und Teen Love Story. Und das Beste: Jede:r erkennt sich in einem der heldenhaften Charaktere wieder.
So basically, it was high time that Sailor Moon was finally officially available to wear. Unfortunately not in our store, but you can find them directly at the source. And the selection is great: Vans makes us happy with T-shirts, shirts, caps, sneakers, caps, backpacks, ... Only the magical accessories, brooch and tiara, I miss unfortunately.
