The drugstore brand essence has revised its range. At first glance, the new products include numerous dupes for expensive high-end products. Here are seven that I'm particularly excited about.
The beauty brand essence revises its range twice a year. Products are always dropped to make room for new ones. Updates that I follow with interest. Not least because the product portfolio of such a drugstore brand is a good indicator of what's on trend. Do some of the following new products look familiar to you? That's no coincidence. Essence and co. like to take inspiration - sometimes more, sometimes less obviously - from popular products from more expensive brands. There are a striking number of such "copies" among this year's spring novelties.
A broad, affordable selection of brushes from the drugstore is in short supply. At least if the brushes are to meet a certain aesthetic standard. With this simple, elegant line, essence has definitely filled a gap. The slim, calm design is suspiciously reminiscent of the brush collection that Kylie Jenner's make-up artist Ariel launched in 2021 in collaboration with Morphe Brushes. The set was on my wishlist for a long time. I never bought it. Fortunately. I actually like Essence's interpretation with the lilac-coloured handles a little better than the original. My wallet too.

2023 was the year of glowing pink cheeks. And it wasn't all down to Barbie. Even before the film was released, Dior's "Backstage Blush" in "Rosy Glow" was particularly popular on social media. Will the new essence "Blush Crush" in "Pink Pop" be able to compete?
Looking for a brightening loose powder? The internet will (almost) unanimously recommend the "Easy Bake Loose Powder" from Huda Beauty. A favourite shade from the range: "Banana Bread". The new "Banana Loose Powder" from essence is said to have at least as much to offer: The powder mattifies, sets and is even suitable for baking. At least that's what the manufacturer claims. Let's hope the product is a success, because I would love to see more colours. Including a version of Huda's pink powder in "Cherry Blossom Cake".

When Anastasia Beverly Hills (ABH) launched "Brow Freeze" at the beginning of 2021, the so-called soap-brow trend helped the eyebrow product achieve bestseller status. This is a clear, waxy gel that you comb through your brows with a spoolie brush to style them. And while ABH is now also creating rapture with a liquid version, this year essence presents us with their version of the ABH predecessor: the "Brow Lifting Gel Set".
A sticky primer can make your make-up look fresher for longer and therefore extend its wear time. Like most of the products listed here, Milk Makeup's "Hydro Grip Primer" is one of the best-selling products at Sephora. So it's no wonder that essence senses an opportunity to get a slice of the cake. The "Jelly Grip Hydrating Primer" looks very similar to its role model and is also designed to give your skin a dewy finish.

Charlotte Tilbury, the owner of the luxury beauty brand of the same name, is honoured twice over here. And rightly so. Because the brand has - in my opinion - some of the best complexion products ever that make the skin glow. I'm a big fan. And so is essence, apparently. Inspired by the "Beauty Light Wand", a range of liquid highlighters in characteristic tubes with a sponge applicator, essence is launching three shades of a similar product: the "Baby Got Glow" highlighter.

We continue with a glowy product: Charlotte Tilbury's "Hollywood Flawless Filter" has already been imitated by many brands. This hybrid of foundation and liquid highlighter can be used in a variety of ways: Under your make-up as a base, over your make-up as a highlighter or you can mix it into your foundation for extra freshness in your complexion. Essence's version is called "Magic Filter Glow Booster" and is available in seven colours.
As a massive Disney fan, I see the world through rose-tinted glasses. I worship series from the 90s and consider mermaids a religion. When I’m not dancing in glitter rain, I’m either hanging out at pyjama parties or sitting at my make-up table. P.S. I love you, bacon, garlic and onions.
