5 things to do with your kids this spring!

The sun is shining, the primroses are in bloom and the birds are singing - it's spring. At last you can get out into nature with your children again, without having to dress them warmly. There's so much to discover! Like these five things you should do with your children this spring.
1. Gardening
Most children enjoy working in the garden. They appreciate it when they get their own patch of earth. If this isn't possible, the Smoby gardening table is a great alternative. You can also turn the balcony into a miniature garden. An old frying pan, a wine crate or old PET bottles cut up and decorated can serve very well as pots.
Watching something grow with children is very interesting. That's why we recommend choosing plants that grow quickly, such as marigolds or sunflowers. Sow carrots or radishes - even the youngest children can do it. And when the first carrot leaves come out, everyone will be happy. If that's too much work for you: grow watercress. It'll grow anywhere.
For children, there are special gardening tools with shorter handles and lighter watering cans. Incidentally: you can make holes just fine with a normal soup spoon.
It doesn't matter.
2. A bike ride with the whole family
It doesn't matter how far - the main thing is to go for a bike ride! Maybe you'll only make it as far as the next playground or the nearest lake. Kids just love riding their new bikes.
If a child is comfortable on a scooter or draisienne, can keep their balance, take corners and brake, it's time: they're ready for their first bike. The bike shouldn't be too big and should be able to 'grow' with the child - choose a model with height-adjustable saddle and handlebars.
The important thing: owning a bike does not mean being able to ride on the road. Children are only allowed to ride on the road with the bike from the time they start compulsory schooling. They must be introduced to road traffic over several years. If you're going on a bike tour with the whole family and decide to take on slightly more difficult sections, you can opt for a follower bike for children up to the age of 10.
3. Playing in the forest
For children, the forest always represents something special. They can discover many things there, such as animals, plants, little paths and maybe even a stream. A day in the forest - it's both an adventure and a relaxing time - for children and parents alike.
The outing doesn't have to turn into a boring walk. You could, for example, stop off at a forest playground where you can barbecue or have a picnic. Playing hide and seek can also be great fun in the forest. Children love collecting flowers, branches or pine cones - and then using them to make crafts at home.
4. Make a birdhouse
A birdhouse serves as an emergency nest, a night spot and protection from damp and cold in winter. The advantage: you can watch the birds with your children.
Please note: the nest box should be installed in early spring or already in autumn. So you have all spring and late summer to make the nest box.
The advantage: you can watch birds with your children.
Beware: the nest box should be installed in early spring or already in autumn.
Making a good nesting box isn't as easy as all that. You can find plenty of instructions online. As the nesting box needs to be weatherproof, you can impregnate the outside against damp, insects and fungi.

5. Playing together on the playground
With your children, set up your own play area in the garden. They'll certainly be delighted to help you choose a playhouse or sandpit. You can also get them involved in installing the various elements. But of course, they'll have the most fun playing. You don't need that much for your own play area. In the following article, find out which products are suitable and what you need to look out for.

I love the strategy game “The Settlers of Catan”, the Ravensburger puzzle “Colourful Cupcakes” and the pink fluffy unicorn that sits on my desk (a birthday present from my workmates). Not only do I have a weakness for toys, I also get excited about good food and comedy TV shows.
