Simple solutions for the five most annoying summer fashion problems
by Laura Scholz
«A rash», «Chub Rub», «Chafing». Call it what you will – when your thighs rub, it can be painful, especially in the summer. These 3 simple tips will help.
The joy of short, breezy summer clothes doesn’t last long. The spoilsport: our thighs. When they rub against each other, it can be quite painful. Especially when you start to sweat too. It chafes, burns, and often causes redness and irritation. Nobody really wants this stress. Fortunately, there are a handful of tricks – also from the community – that prevent this annoying problem.
Last year I wrote an article about the various little problems that summer brings with it. Sweat marks, uncomfortable sandals – and «Chub Rub» aka chafing.
In the comments you all agreed: what helps the most are cycling shorts, made of thin cotton, shapewear, or short tights. They hide discreetly under skirts, dresses or loose shorts and prevent the skin on your thighs from rubbing against each other, avoiding chafing.
For those that really don’t want an extra layer of fabric in summer, grab some anti-chafing creams and balms instead. They absorb moisture and provide a protective layer on the treated area. This prevents painful rubbing.
Another tip from you guys in the comments – one for saving the pennies too – was good old baby powder. It also absorbs moisture, soothes and prevents excessive rubbing.
The disadvantage: The white powder can visibly settle on textiles or unattractively trickle down the legs.
If you didn’t do anything to prevent it and the chafing reoccurs, zinc ointment will save the day. The zinc oxide it contains causes the skin to contract, protecting the wounded area. In addition, zinc ointment has an antiseptic effect, speeds up the healing and reduces the appearance of rashes and pimples.
