Product details
The electric locomotives of the series 1216 (Taurus 3) are multi-system alternating current universal locomotives based on the technology of the Siemens EuroSprinter family. The exterior and the high-speed bogies were taken from the first two Taurus generations, albeit with some detailed modifications. From 2006 to 2008, 50 locomotives were delivered to the ÖBB. They are designed for operation on lines with a network voltage of 15 kV/16.7 Hz, 25 kV/50 Hz, and 3 kV/DC. The maximum power is 6,400 kW, and the top speed is 230 km/h. They are used in both national and international passenger and freight transport. For individual countries, the locomotive must also be equipped with the respective country packages, which include special equipment for train communication, displays, voice outputs, train protection systems, labeling, and additional features. The locomotives of variant C (1216.2) are equipped for use in Austria and Germany, as well as with an additional country package for the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
