Dwarf Pomegranate
The pomegranate tree is one of the oldest container plants.
Origin: It has been widely distributed throughout the Mediterranean region for about 2,500 years.
Cultivation: Seeds can be sown indoors year-round. Soak the seeds in room-temperature water for about 12 hours, then press them onto moist planting substrate. Since it is a light germinator, the seeds should not be covered with substrate. With consistent moisture and warmth (20 to 25 °C), the seeds will germinate in 2 to 3 weeks.
Soil: For repotting (and after cultivation), use a mix of one-third potting soil, peat, and sand.
Location / Light: Bright and sunny spots in the home or outdoors are ideal.
Watering and Fertilizing: Water generously during the growing phase, but allow the soil to dry out slightly before the next watering. In winter, reduce watering without letting the root ball dry out. From late March to October, the plant should be fed with liquid bonsai fertilizer every 14 days.
Pruning: Once new shoots have formed 8 to 10 leaf pairs, they can be pruned back to 2 to 3 leaf pairs throughout the year. Remove any inward-growing shoots to maintain a clear crown. If you want the pomegranate to bloom, make the last cut in early April.
