Care
It is important to cut off the dead flowers in summer. However, you should leave the old flowers in the winter months. They serve as protection for the new flower buds from frost and strong winds. In March, when there is no longer any risk of frost, all brown, old flowers can be cut back to just above the first or second healthy bud. This form of pruning encourages the growth of new shoots and ensures that the flower size does not decrease. All hydrangea species do not like dry conditions at all. Water them well when dry, especially in spring and summer. It is not advisable to only give them a little water now and then. It is best to give them a large amount of water all at once. From time to time, hydrangeas can become slightly bare at the base during the flowering period. The leaves may also turn yellow. This is almost always due to drought.
