Bezzera Unica PID
Who buys this machine must deal with the matter of coffee. But if you have that under control, you drink no more capsule coffee. I am thrilled with the machine and still looks really good. So to speak, a Ferrari in the kitchen.

When you buy this machine, you know what you are getting into. It keeps what is promised.
Pro
First class machine for espresso lovers. Who drinks a lot of latte and cappuccino, should perhaps look for a two-circuit or take a good milk frother in addition.
With the Unica PID, the right grinder and a good bean blend, you get espressos that are really good compared to some from the espresso bar (even in Italy).
After 3 years, mine now had to be serviced, I calculate the price per kilo of beans and compare with a "Käpselimaschine", but the purchase price and service are covered several times - with much better coffee!

very well made, easy to use
After taking my first steps with the basic DeLonghi portafilter machine, I switched to the Unica and am completely satisfied. The machine looks very good and is, in my opinion, excellently finished.
Once you get the hang of it (coffee quantity, flow time, grind etc) you get really good espresso. The PID display is very helpful. Since it is a single-circuit machine, it is especially for espresso fans the right choice. You can easily switch from coffee to steam by pressing a button and after about 2 minutes the machine is heated up. This is easy for one or two cappuccinos. If you want to make coffee again immediately afterwards, you have to vent the machine and cool it down. For a household that regularly consumes many coffee / milk drinks, the temperature surfing but could be a bit uncomfortable. Here, a dual-circuit machine is more recommended.
The most important thing in connection with this machine or with all portafilters, however, is that you also have an appropriately good grinder. The machine produces only as good coffee as the coffee grounds or powder is.
It's a bit of a shame that the Unica doesn't have a dial for steam output. It would be so probably a little better to control. But the lever does the job. Upwards it locks firmly in place, downwards you control the steam draw itself.
The machine heats up very quickly in my opinion for a machine with E61 brew group. But so 30 minutes it should already be.
Really negative I noticed nothing, except for the fact perhaps that the manual is rather poor, in terms of grammar but also clarity. But that is very often the case with Italian manufacturers.
Oh and the drip tray could go 1cm further forward, but it goes.
Otherwise, a top machine that makes a lot of fun.
