Product details
The Zurich Bible traces its origins back to Huldrych Zwingli and his group of translators. Starting in 1524, various editions of the continuous translation were published, culminating in 1531 with the printing of the German Folio Bible, known as the Froschauer Bible. In the following centuries, the Zurich translation was repeatedly revised; from 1907 to 1931, it was newly translated based on the original text. Due to its sober, clear language and its closeness to the original text, it became a classic. In recent years, there have been significant developments in language, the religious world, and theological research. Therefore, in 1984, the Synod of the Evangelical-Reformed Church of Zurich decided to commission a new translation: a scientifically reliable and linguistically careful translation for the present, suitable for use in worship and teaching. The new translation of the Zurich Bible enables contemporary readers to understand biblical texts without imposing a specific interpretation. It makes the biblical texts accessible as writings that speak from a past time into our present. Additionally, it brings the Bible close as a foundational document of Christian faith and as a literary text that transcends everyday life.
