This thesis (prepared for the purpose of obtaining the academic degree of Master of Arts as a diploma thesis) deals with the claims for damages in case of violation of privacy. After a brief introduction, the concepts of personality, personality rights, privacy and the right to privacy are explained in more detail. Numerous provisions (both of constitutional rank and simple legal norms) that protect this high good are highlighted. The core of the work is a review of the claims for damages in the event of a violation of privacy under the ABGB, the DSG 2000 and the MedienG. In order to improve comprehensibility, the basics of damages law are explained in general, as well as the development of the Austrian Data Protection Act and the Media Act.
