The classics of social pedagogy are those pedagogues who have emerged in history with contributions that have lasted over time and who have contributed to the progress of thinking in social pedagogy. They are authors whose complete works are characterised by a high degree of unity and conclusiveness and who take into account the central themes of the subject. These include J. H. Pestalozzi, J. H. Wichern, P. Natorp, A. Fischer, H. Nohl, K. Wilker, S. Bernfeld, K. Mollenhauer and H. Thiersch. A detailed critical chapter is dedicated to each of these social pedagogues, in which their thorough thinking is reviewed and made comprehensible. At the same time, it is intended to provide a general overview of the development of a science from its beginnings to the present day. The volume is aimed at first-year students as well as students in higher semesters and interested laypersons.
