Investigation of methods for evaluation of heat pump performance

The textbook "Investigation of methods for evaluation of heat pump performance" offers a comprehensive analysis of the performance assessment of air-to-air heat pumps. The master's thesis was conducted at the SP Technical Research Institute in Borås under the guidance of Professor Per Fahlén and Dr. Roger Nordman. The focus is on examining various methods for determining the COP (Coefficient of Performance) of heat pumps through practical measurements in a laboratory environment. Three testing methods – the SP method, the Climacheck method, and the calorimeter method – were applied in parallel. The results of these tests allow for a detailed analysis of the performance characteristics of heat pumps under different weather conditions. Additionally, uncertainty assessments and limitation analyses of each method are conducted to develop suggestions for improvements for future field measurements. A central theme is the monitoring of dynamic performance during the defrosting process, which is crucial for the long-term measurement of the HSPF (Heating Seasonal Performance Factor).
