Product details

The successful book about the life and work of Gabriele Münter is now available in an updated special edition at an attractive price. Before Gabriele Münter (1877-1962) turned to painting, she had already been photographing in the USA around 1900. Shortly thereafter, she began to paint almost daily for the rest of her life. Gabriele Münter was an open and experimental artist whose achievements have largely gone unnoticed, as her work has primarily been interpreted through the narrow lens of her biography and her relationship with Kandinsky. For a long time, her paintings from the "Blue Rider" period were almost the sole focus of attention. Thus, the name Münter is primarily associated with German Expressionism, Murnau, and the Münter House. However, Münter's work is much more diverse, imaginative, and stylistically broader than previously known. This book expands the limited reception. The focus is on her painterly oeuvre, which is presented in various thematic sections. The range spans from classical genres such as portrait and landscape to interior and abstraction, culminating in "Primitivism.".
