Vom Lärmen des Begehrens

Psychoanalysis - not unlike society - placed a destructive potential in the lesbian, understood her as aggressive, vengeful, phallic, pathologised her and excluded her from its institutions. But at the same time, it also neglected, veiled, belittled lesbians - or did it even shy away from the noise of lesbian desire?

The contributors address tense and sometimes misguided encounters of psychoanalysis with lesbian sexuality: in Freud, in the homophobic tradition, in seminal articles from the 1990s onwards and in the present. They illuminate the field of tension between psychoanalysis and lesbian sexuality from (clinical) psychoanalytical, lesbian activist, queer theoretical, sexual scientific, historical and cultural studies perspectives.
