Product details
From the legendary Empress Jingu to Tomoe Gozen, who fought for her beloved Yoshinaka until his downfall, from Ohori Tsuruhime, the famous warrior of the 16th century, and Nakano Takeko, the "last Samurai warrior," to Nijima Yae, who defended her home castle against imperial troops with a rifle in hand while dressed in her fallen brother's clothing and later became a nurse – Japanese folk culture has preserved some stories of heroic female warriors. Sébastien Perez has collected these stories and presented them as he found them – as both legendary and historical narratives. Benjamin Lacombe brings us especially close to these beautiful warriors and their often tragic tales through his illustrations. Benjamin Lacombe and Sébastien Perez frequently collaborate as a team of author and illustrator. In the case of the Samurai women, they also researched the stories together.
