Evangelium an dunklen Tagen

In different ways, November 9 and January 27 commemorate German crimes against the Jewish people and a Christian history of guilt. Since the lectionary reform in 2018, both days have also become part of the Protestant liturgical calendar. How can language be found today in a service on the commemoration of the November pogroms and on the day of remembrance for the victims of National Socialism? Should the sermon reflect the questioning and brokenness of Christian theology? Can the liberating message of the Gospel be proclaimed loudly despite the forces of death? This volume documents sermons that have been held since 2002 in services organized by the Aktion Sühnzeichen Friedensdienste in collaboration with the Protestant congregation in Friedrichstadt, Berlin, and since 2013 also the Protestant Academy Berlin. Reflections from Jewish and Christian perspectives precede the sermons.
