Bach unter den Theologen

The question of 'Bach among theologians' has been pursued through the centuries: from the theological influences and contemporaries of Bach to the question of forgetting and rediscovery around 1800, and up to Albert Schweitzer's monumental Bach monograph. It culminates in the inquiry into the current relationship between theology and Bach, as well as that of Bach to theology. This volume gathers the eight contributions from the theological symposium held during the 93rd Bach Festival of the New Bach Society in 2018, themed 'Bach Reworked,' in Tübingen. The engagement with Bach, as these contributions make clear, is deeply embedded in theological and cultural developments - and Bach remains much more than a piece of cultural memory: he was and continues to be a challenge and an inspiration.
