    Passable camera, poor software support

Unfortunately, the HC Rop app for controlling the camera only works up to Android 12. However, I have Android 14. The answer from Panasonic (I had to wait a whole 3 weeks for it): "With reference to your enquiry, we inform you that the HC-ROP supports the Android operating system up to version 12 and it is currently not known when the next update for this application will be available." I find this totally wrong! I bought this camera twice and the HC-X20e twice too. And now I can't control them remotely. Furthermore, these cameras have power charging sockets with such special plug dimensions that I had to order extension cables in America. This is certainly a special case, but anyone who needs it is in a bad position. What I have noticed with indoor shots (theatre) is that the faces are more burnt out than with my old Sony HD cameras. But there may be something that can be adjusted. The setting options are considerable and I'm not yet through with all of them.

    Zoom button

Video quality is okay, some videos are too reddish at the same settings. Battery lasts very long at 4K/60p. What I didn't like is the viewfinder with a small picture like a toy camera, the old Panasonic GH5 viewfinder is a thousand times better, why no large viewfinder for this camcorder? Zoom button squeaks and whistles, the camera has to be sent to warranty because of this, very annoying.

Outstanding image quality. Super images even at very long distances.

The image quality is very good. I always use the automatic mode for the shots. I have never experienced a situation where a manual setting would have been necessary. The camera always delivers sharp images and the colours are simply superb. The 24x optical zoom also enables fantastic shots to be taken at very, very long distances (almost unbelievable). The built-in microphone is also very good. Speech, music and ambient noise are recorded naturally. I therefore don't need an additional microphone. The camera feels good in the hand and the workmanship is first class.
Everything is perfect 👍👍👍👍. I have no criticisms.

Picture quality worse than expected, zoom good, stabiliser insufficient.

I have returned it because it is not as described. I've been filming for many years and wanted a better camera than my Panasonic HC - VXF 11, but the new one didn't take any better pictures after my tests. It is also heavier, of course, so the image stabiliser is even more important and therefore worse. I went back to the VXF 11.

    Contra

    • Chunky
    • Picture not as expected
    • too expensive for the performance
    • Stabi only mediocre
