Product details

The DRV2605 from TI is a sleek little motor driver. Instead of taking control of a stepper or DC motor, it is specifically designed to control haptic motors - buzzers and vibration motors. Normally, these types of motors would simply be turned on and off, but this driver has the ability to create various effects when driving a vibromotor. For example, it can increase or decrease the vibration level, generate "click" effects, provide different buzzer levels, or even control the vibration based on music or audio input.

This chip is controlled via I2C. After initialization, multiple effects can be queued in the chip's memory and then triggered to act in sequence. The built-in effects are much more engaging than just "on" and "off" and will give your haptic project a more pleasant feel.

According to the product page, it can be used with both LRA (Linear Resonant Actuator) and ERM (Eccentric Rotating Mass) type motors.

We have placed this handy chip on a breakout board. It works with both 3V and 5V power supply/logics. We have developed a special code for Arduino, which can also be easily ported to any I2C-capable processor. Check it out and enjoy the vibration!.
