Adafruit 16-Channel PWM Servo HAT for Raspberry Pi

The Raspberry Pi is a very powerful minicomputer, but there are some weaknesses when it comes to addressing servos. These motors must be operated with very accurate repeating signals. Instead of using the Linux kernel for this task, the 16-channel PWM HAT from Adafruit is now available. Just plug in your Raspberry Pi, and you can easily install 16 servos with perfect timing. PWM with up to 1.6 kHz at 12-bit precision is no longer a problem.

The HAT works not only with the Raspberry Pi Model A+ and B+, but also with the older models A and B. In this case, you only need a 2x13 header instead of the 2x20 headers included in the delivery (see accessories).

The Adafruit 16-channel 12-bit PWM/Servo HAT controls up to 16 servos or PWM outputs via I2C with only 2 pins. The on-board PWM controller controls all 16 channels at the same time, without additional computing power from the Raspberry Pi. In addition, up to 62 of these shields can be stacked, allowing you to control 992 servos with just 2 pins.

Adafruit has already created a Python library for this HAT, so it is ready for use within minutes. A very detailed tutorial is also available for download.

Each kit contains the servo HAT, a 2-pin terminal block, 4 pieces of 3x4 headers, and a 2x20 pin socket header. The assembly is very easy and can be done by soldering beginners. If you do not want to solder yourself, we offer the shield already soldered for a small surcharge.

If you want to use several shields, please order 2x20 pin stacking headers (see accessories). Likewise, angled 3x4 headers are used for the servos.

A Raspberry Pi or servos are not included.
