    Top repeater!

    Really a super device!

I wanted to equip my game consoles and my AV receiver in the living room with fast internet as well (streaming, gaming, Netlifx etc). But since my modem and router are in the study, the only option
was to connect the devices via WLAN. The internet was correspondingly sluggish.

First I tried it with two PowerLine adapters (internet via the mains), but until the signal arrived in the living room, it was even slower than the WLAN. A stronger router would not have helped much here either.

At the moment I have the Netgear R6300. It's no longer the newest, but it's definitely still good enough. The router already supports 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz WLAN, but this is of little use to my devices, as none of the three supports 5 Ghz WLAN. The PS3 even only supports 802.11b/g, i.e. no N-band. So the maximum speed of 11 Mbit/s was already reached here.

So I bought this repeater, connected it to my router via WLAN and connected all devices via LAN cable. The difference was enormous. More than I had hoped for. Of course, the measurements of the PlayStation are only estimates, but the speed is clearly noticeable, e.g. when downloading updates or entire games.

    PS3 via WLAN: 11 Mbit/s
    PS3 via cable to repeater: 35 Mbit/s

    PS4 via WLAN: 22 Mbit/s
    PS4 via cable to repeater: 52 Mbit/s

The repeater can also be operated in client mode, which is exactly what I was looking for. Since my router is strong enough for my flat, I don't really need a WLAN repeater. So I simply switched off the repeating or WLAN function. The connection to the router via WLAN remains intact! Top!

One star deduction because the setup page in the browser could not be opened on the PC. It worked on the smartphone and then also on the PC after the setup.

    Crashes often

I can only recommend the extender to a limited extent. Our house is an old building and setting up a WLAN is a nightmare. We bought this extender with the expectation of a better range. The range is not even that bad. FastLane technology allows 2.4GHz or 5GHz to be separated, so depending on the frequency, a greater range can be achieved.
The problem with this extender, however, is that it simply crashes at high load (3 machines gaming) and disconnects from the router. As soon as the extender is then disconnected from the power and reconnected, it works again without any problems.
I can recommend the device more as an access point, where these problems do not occur.

Very good access point with high data throughput and good range

I got this extender because my Horizon box from Cablecom was performing very poorly. I only had a data throughput of 10 Mbps at times. I now have the Netgear Nighthawk in operation in access point mode and connected directly to the Horizon box via LAN cable. The device has a fantastic range and the previously dead areas now have a whopping 230 Mbit/s internet speed. However, when setting it up I still had to do a slightly more awkward configuration in the Horizon box as it is configured with IP Range 192.168.192.X. I had to change this to 192.168.192.X. This is the default. I had to change this to 192.168.1.X. But then everything worked straight away. I did not test the extender mode.

    Pro

    • Fast WLAN
    • Dual Band
    • Very good range
    • Good web interface with mobile optimisations
    • Simple set up

    Contra

    • Problems setting up with Horizon box due to strange standard configuration of Cablecom

    Best WIFI extender so far

Probably the best WIFI extender I've ever had. I've spent a lot of money on other extenders but this one has been well worth it out of all of them. Through 4 walls, 900 mbit/s upload and download of 1000 mbit/s arrives consistently.

    Pro

    • Very stable connection
    • Goes through several walls without any problems
    • Setup foolproof
    • 5x 1gbit RJ45 ports

    Contra

    • nothing so far
