Wallflowers in the Galaxus product range: nobody wants this Christmas tree

There are stars and starlets and there are wallflowers. The same applies at Galaxus. There are products which eke out a shadowy existence, unnoticed by the public. Like this artificial Christmas tree.

15 minutes of fame. In the 1960s, Andy Warhol once coined the expression that in a future world everyone would be world famous for a short time. Anyone and everyone? Nope. There are wallflowers who never make it into the limelight. Not even for a quarter of an hour.

The Galaxus range is also home to products that nobody sees, nobody knows and nobody wants. That’s going to change now, though, at least for a few minutes. It doesn’t have to be 15.

The Christmas tree nobody wants

If you enter «Christmas tree» into the search field on our shop, there are currently 1,145 products to choose from, usually sorted by relevance. That means you’ll see the most relevant Christmas tree first and then it goes steadily downhill, all the way down to tree number 1,145. You can find out how products are sorted and displayed here. Simply put, it all comes down to:

  • Matching the aim of the search query
  • Users’ search and shopping behaviour
  • Availability and estimated delivery time
  • Popularity and novelty
  • Attractiveness and price

Taking all these criteria into account, Beliani’s «Denali» ends up at the bottom. The poor plastic tree has no relevance. But there are so many reasons to like it and its plastic needles. This is what I read in the flowery product description:

Prepare for a magical Christmas by decorating your home with a Christmas tree like no other. Decorated with frosted branches, pine cones and holly berries, it’s just waiting for some fairy lights and your presents at its feet. The Christmas tree is made of easy-to-clean plastic and comes with a sturdy metal base with protective rubber pads so it won’t scratch your floor.

It has frosted branches, pine cones and holly berries made of easy-care plastic and a sturdy metal base with protective rubber pads. And yet nobody at Galaxus cares about the Denali. Why? Maybe it’s the silly name, the price or the fact that many people prefer not to sing carols around a PVC tree. On the other hand, a plastic tree like this is a one-time investment, you’ll never have to ask «Nordmann fir or blue spruce?» ever again, and come 6 January, there’s no puny, dried up remnant of the once proud fir tree on the side of the road.

So, maybe you could give Beliani’s Denali a try this year. Because, honestly, I can hardly imagine anything sadder than a Christmas tree that nobody wants.
