The best bra solution for asymmetric tops

One-shoulder tops are all well and good – until you have to deal with strapless bras that never fit properly. What’s the alternative? You’ll find it in the world of sport.
If you have boobs, you’re probably all too familiar with the dilemma of strapless and asymmetrical tops. Namely: what the hell do I wear underneath?
Bra straps detract from the off-the-shoulder look and the most obvious solution, strapless styles, come with their own bunch of new problems: from lack of support, to slipping, pinching and looking obvious or unsightly. Finding a strapless bra that fits well is a Herculean task, which only gets exponentially more difficult the bigger the cup size. Of course, you can simply go braless, but that’s not necessarily something you’ll feel comfortable with.
Sports bras – imo, the perfect solution
For around two years now, I’ve simply worn an asymmetrical sports bra under my one-shoulder tops instead. It sits discreetly under the fabric, doesn’t slip and offers more support than I will ever need whatever life throws at me on an average day.

The fact is that not all asymmetric tops have the same open shoulder. Sometimes it’s the left, other times it’s the right. But you don’t need to buy two sports bras going each different way. Instead, you simply turn the inside of your sports bra inside out and then put it on the wrong way round, so to speak. While it sounds strange, it works great in practice –on me, at least. Why not give it a go? Test it out to see if you can comfortably wear your sports bra turned on both sides and check if it works with your asymmetrical tops.
My one-shoulder sports bra is an old one from the Athleta brand, which unfortunately you can’t buy any more. But we do have alternative options here in our store:
I’d recommend Girlfriend Collective’s Bianca One Shoulder Bra, which will hopefully be available at Galaxus again soon.
Unfortunately, I’m yet to uncover the perfect hack for completely off-the-shoulder tops, i.e. bandeau tops. Have you? Let me know in the comments.

Has endless love for shoulder pads, Stratocasters and sashimi, but a limited tolerance for bad impressions of her Eastern Swiss dialect.
