Making autumn leaves from tissue paper - here's how

What would autumn be without the magical, colourful leaves? With this DIY, you can bring them home to your window and create an autumnal ambience.

I prefer the warm summer temperatures to the cold, rainy days. But autumn also has its nice sides. Finally lighting the fire, playing cosy music and spending quiet craft afternoons with the children. For me, that's the epitome of autumn.

What you need for your craft afternoon

In addition to adhesive foil, the most important thing for this craft is different coloured tissue paper. It's also handy to have scissors, a waterproof pen and adhesive tape to hand.

Now it's getting autumnal

1. Have your child tear the tissue paper into small pieces.

2. Stick the film onto the table with the self-adhesive side facing up. It's best to use a small piece of adhesive tape in each corner. Now your child can place one paper tile after the other on the adhesive film.

3. Your child can position more cookies on top until the entire adhesive foil is covered with tissue paper. Make sure that the small pieces of paper do not overlap too much so that they adhere better to the film.

4. Now attach another adhesive film to the top. Slowly stick it down from one side to the other and carefully smooth out the air bubbles with your finger or an auxiliary object. If an air bubble doesn't go away, you can cut it open with a sharp knife and then press the film down with your finger.

5. Draw a few autumn leaves. If you don't want to draw any yourself, search Google for "autumn leaf colouring" and you'll find tons of templates.

6. Now there's only one thing left to do: cut out the autumn leaves and put them in the window.

Tinker and learn

You can't imagine how much your child will learn during an afternoon of crafting. Young children can already tear up leaves, even if their cutting skills are not yet fully developed. It can be a good tactile exercise to explore the tissue paper with their hands. Older children are able to glue and cut out on their own. So let them create their own sheets to encourage their creativity. This craft activity is also suitable for energetic children. They can slow down a little and exercise their patience.

Have I whetted your appetite? Get in the mood for the new season and create something autumnal for your home. Have fun with it!

My students, but also my own children, inspire me every day with their wild imaginations. I love to document the creative projects that come from them on my blog Fantasiewerk. I hope to inspire many moms and dads to do crafts with their children. [Fantasiewerk.ch](https://fantasiewerk.ch)
