Dutch braid tutorial: make your backside festival-ready

Braided hairstyles have long been part of the open-air programme. But how exactly do you conjure up a 'plait braid' as a complete beginner? In the second part of our three-part tutorial series, braid pro Carla Opetnik shows you how to create Dutch braids at the back of your head with a little practice.
What's happened so far: In our first braiding tutorial with Carla Opetnik from Zopfchopf, we clarified some important questions: How much fun does a 150 cm tall girl really have at a festival? What is a Braid Milk good for? Who is Carla anyway? And how can you create beautiful space buns with Dutch braid elements with her help? You can find the article and video here: [[marketingpage:8120]]
There's just one thing I seem to have left out in the heat of the moment. My editorial team colleague Simon Balissat asked the legitimate question:
What are Dutch braids anyway, let alone space buns?
Since we're using the same two elements again in today's tutorial - just in a different form - I can iron out my quick shot and answer the question briefly and succinctly. Dutch braids are braids that look as if they have been put on. They stand out from the head and are characterised by a three-dimensional effect. Space buns, on the other hand, are two bumps of hair on the left and right of the head, similar to Minnie Mouse's ears. All clear so far?
Apropos Minnie Mouse
In keeping with the Disney theme, Carla shows us today how to create two even Dutch braids at the back of your head from the neck upwards and then top them with two elegant mouse ears. The whole thing really does look a bit like Mickey's mate from behind:

And while you're watching the tutorial made by our video producer Stephanie Tresch, I'm doing the same. Because unfortunately, I'm still a few hours away from perfect braids - not to mention those at the back of my head ...

As a massive Disney fan, I see the world through rose-tinted glasses. I worship series from the 90s and consider mermaids a religion. When I’m not dancing in glitter rain, I’m either hanging out at pyjama parties or sitting at my make-up table. P.S. I love you, bacon, garlic and onions.
