"Dirtsuit Core Edition" by Dirtlej: Now there really are (almost) no more excuses

I'm finally dry and warm on the trail, even in autumn and winter. The "Dirtsuit Core Edition" from Dirtlej lives up to its promise. It's almost hard not to go out on the bike despite the humming weather.

Something is always wrong. Sometimes it's too hot, sometimes too cold. Sometimes it's too dry, sometimes too wet. The last few days have been wet and cold in my region. I'm deliberately leaving out the "too". Because ever since Dirtlej sent me his "Dirtsuit Core Edition" for a test, there are hardly any more excuses not to get on a mountain bike.

Dirtlej "Dirtsuit Core Edition" before the big snow

The big snow is coming on 21 November. But not until the afternoon. When I set off in my Dirtsuit at 10.30 am, it was still dry and mild. However, this is set to change over the next few hours. Although I am spared heavy precipitation for the time being, the change in the weather is already noticeable. It's getting colder by the minute. Two hours later, I'm frozen through and slightly frustrated as I make my way back. The thermometer still shows two degrees. That probably explains my not-so-sunny disposition in the selfie video.

Under the dirtsuit, I'm wearing long baselayer trousers from Odlo and a long-sleeved baselayer shirt from Assos. Winter socks, winter gloves and my cap also come from the Ticino-based company. And I'm still cold. Note to self: wear warmer underwear next time!

One week later, the white splendour is already water under the bridge again. This morning, the sun pushes through the cloud cover and I set off again. I'm wearing Odlo long johns again, as the cold last time was particularly problematic on my upper body. That's why today I'm wearing the long-sleeved baselayer shirt from Assos for particularly cool temperatures. Plus socks, gloves and the cap.

This combination is perfect this morning. With an outside temperature of five degrees, the climate in the dirtsuit is perfect. The trails and paths are wet, muddy in places and even really muddy in the odd dip. Ideal conditions for the nylon and polyester one-piece suit.

First impression: robust materials with high-quality workmanship

The "Dirtsuit Core Edition" from Dirtlej is the suit for the rough stuff. Sounds like a typical manufacturer's marketing promise at first. But the quality of the garment is impressive. Thanks to the various ventilation zips under the arms and on the legs, the temperature inside can be regulated on the move. The seat area between the legs is extensively reinforced with robust, seamless material and the suit's four pockets are all waterproof, as far as I can tell so far.

Small but nice detail: thanks to the detachable trouser legs, you won't be dragging all the dirt into the entrance area at home. Overall, the "Dirtsuit Core Edition" makes a high-quality and very robust impression on me. However, the next endurance test in heavy rain is still to come. I'm curious to see whether the suit will then meet the highest demands ... Because so far it does.

So I'll be testing it extensively over the next few months and then sharing my opinion in a product test here. Until then, you can find more news, product teasers and background information on my author profile.
