BrickBling LED light set for LEGO Concorde (10318)
Bringing the Lego Concorde to life with Brickbling LEDs
With the Brickbling LED kit, my Lego Concorde appears in new splendour. Installing the lights is easy, even for newbies like me.
With LEDs, you can breathe life into your Lego set in just a few steps. There are many of these complete light kits available on the market. We’ve recently started stocking a new manufacturer at Galaxus: Brickbling. Using my Lego Concorde, I tested out the LED brand.
Instruction video on YouTube
Initially, I wasn’t sure if I’d manage to install the lights with my rudimentary knowledge of electronics. After all, the Concorde’s my first Lego set I’m fitting with LEDs. But Brickbling have people like me in mind. The instructions for the LED kit are available as a PDF and also as a video on YouTube, in which every step is clearly explained.
Attaching the LEDs and wiring was surprisingly easy. All I needed to focus on was taking the right LEDs out of the bags. Thanks to the video, I could watch every step, press pause and copy what I’d seen. There was only one small issue with one of the LEDs. The one in the cockpit wouldn’t stick with the adhesive supplied. That’s why I used transparent adhesive tape instead. This worked fine and isn’t visible from the outside.
All in all, the installation kept me busy for about 1.5 hours. In theory, I could’ve done it in half the time. But as it was my first time adding LEDs to a Lego set, I didn’t want to get things wrong, so I took my time. Better safe than sorry, right?
Lights create atmosphere
I’m impressed with the result. The lights automatically draw more attention to the set. The Concorde’s really brought to life. Glowing engines make it look as if the aircraft’s about to take off. The LEDs are also clearly visible during the day, but the lights are more effective in dark lighting conditions.
The LEDs really come into their own when you look at the set from a distance. However, if you take a closer look, the lights and also the wiring aren’t as attractive. It all looks very home-made and doesn’t blend in nicely with the rest of the set.
In a nutshell
A bright upgrade for Lego sets
Pro
- simple step-by-step instructions, especially in the YouTube video
- the LEDs give the set a visual upgrade
- the lights are clearly visible even in daylight
Contra
- the wiring job and LEDs look a bit amateur up close
