Selected Femme Cardigan
3 ways to style your underappreciated cardigans
Cardigans are clearly on a mission right now: to shake off their frumpy image. So far, that’s going pretty well. Even so, cardigans are far more versatile than most people think.
Cosy wool or cotton, a strip of buttons and they’re ready to rock. Closed at the back, buttoned at the front – you know the drill. After that, you probably don’t give your cardigan a second thought. The thing is, any typical cardigan can be transformed into a cool statement piece in just a few simple steps. With the winter months stretching out ahead of us, wouldn’t it be a shame not to exploit your cardi’s full potential?
1. Trickery over tucking
If you’re a millennial, you probably love stuffing your shirts, sweaters and cardigans into the front of your waistband or tucking them in some other way. This looks casual in theory, but it can also cause unsightly bumps in the fabric. To avoid that pitfall and still achieve your beloved front tuck look, all you’ll need is a plain old hair tie. You then just need to attach it to one of the top or middle buttons in such a way that it doesn’t stand out. Once you’ve buttoned up the rest of your cardigan, wrap the hair tie around the bottom button from the inside like a loop. Okay, it sounds complicated, but it really is child’s play. See for yourself.

2. Double trouble
In the previous autumn and winter seasons, it was already fashionable to layer coats over blazers or to wrap a second sweater over a first as a scarf. Again, nobody’s being stingy on layers this winter. After all, two cardigans are better – and warmer – than one. You can either buy a pre-layered combi cardi or layer it yourself. Here’s an example:

3. Turning things around
Turning a cardigan inside out creates a stylish, surprising effect. What looks like a bog-standard jumper from the front is actually revealing at the back. It’s up to you whether you have a top or bare skin peeking through.
