10 stylish kitchen roll holders
It's not beautiful or sustainable, but I can't quite manage without it: kitchen paper. To make sure it at least looks nicer, holders with a modern look are the best (emergency) solution.
To save space on the kitchen counter, I could choose a paper towel holder that can be attached to the wall. But I'm more flexible with free-standing solutions. They can be moved from the kitchen to the shelf, the sink, the hob or the dining table at any time. If they also cut a good figure like these 10 models, they even decorate the room.
1. "Hammershøi" impresses with its mix of materials
The handle of the "Hammershøi Paper Towel Holder" from Kähler is the centre of attention. It is made of ceramic, is adorned with decorative grooves and comes in the colours white, grey or indigo. All other elements remain the same. The rod and base are made of solid, oiled oak. The kitchen roll holder is one of a whole series of kitchen accessories inspired by the artist Svend Hammershøi. He worked for the Scandinavian company from 1893 until his death and became known for his bowls and vases with vertical grooves.

2. "Bedford Kitchen" for the industrial look
Rivièra Maison has designed "Bedford Kitchen" with a playful touch. On the one hand, the paper towel holder is robust because it is made of mango wood and aluminium. On the other hand, it has a soft appearance thanks to details such as the round handle and the delicate grain on the base. This contrast makes the model an eye-catcher.
3. "Clamping arm" really holds firm
Aside from a few elegant designs, there has been little innovation in the world of kitchen roll holders. Until now. The Simplehuman model gives us an upgrade: the tension arm. The game changer features a stopper that allows you to tear off a single paper towel - whether you've just started a brand new roll or are on your last sheet. It is also available in silver or black.
4. "Bernadotte" impresses with its groove design
With a price tag of just under 90 francs, "Bernadotte" from Georg Jensen is expensive compared to its simpler counterparts. But as the most elegant model on the list, it can pay for itself by making life a little more beautiful. It is part of the "Bernadotte" collection designed by the Swedish Count and former Prince Sigvard Bernadottes for the Danish brand Georg Jensen. Its design is characterised by the circular handle and a grooved rod. But the material is in no way inferior to the shape: "Bernadotte" has a highly polished stainless steel rod and base, which gleams beautifully and is easy to clean.

5. "Wires" emphasises the shape
First impressions of this Blomus model are deceptive. Although the "Wires" holder looks wiry, it is stable. The fine lines give the holder a simple elegance, which is supported by the muted colour. For those who prefer darker shades, "Wires" is available in five other colours.
6. "Hands On" makes it easier to lend a hand
The "Hands On" paper towel holder from Piffany Copenhagen is a simple combination of a wooden handle and base. It is made special by a large leather loop that extends from top to bottom. In a brown colour, it matches the oak perfectly and not only enhances the holder, but also makes it more practical.

7. "Attitude" shines with a stone texture
The handcrafted marble effect makes every "Attitude" kitchen roll holder by Danish designer Mette Dittmer unique and eye-catching. It has a small edge on the base plate to hold the roll in place. And to prevent the paper from rolling out further than it should, the base is inclined inwards. "Attitude" is part of a kitchen series. It is made of stone powder and synthetic resin and is also available in black and ochre.

8. "RR" scores with its natural style
At first glance, the name of this kitchen roll holder sounds cryptic. But it describes the design of this model perfectly: "RR" stands for "Rustic Rattan" and reveals that Rivièra Maison was aiming for a rustic look that suits the country house style. Although the natural material is significantly lighter than wood or metal, it is just as stable once it is woven.
9. "Mattina" sets a colourful accent
Colourful and space-saving: the "Mattina" kitchen roll holder from Alessi delights with a graphic look and warm colours. Apart from its narrow handle, it is completely red in colour. This brings variety to kitchen worktops, which are often reserved in terms of colour. For those who find it too colourful, "Mattina" is also available in light grey.
10. "Curvature" impresses with its soft side
With its sculptural expression, the Ferm Living holder is more than just a storage solution for your household paper. "Curvature" is handmade from a single piece of metal that forms both the stem and the round base, and its curves make any straight-lined kitchen counter look more appealing. Although each piece is unique, this kitchen roll holder is part of a whole series of organically shaped home accessories made of matt brushed brass.
