Behind the brand Commencal is the former BMX professional Max Commencal. He founded the company Sunn Bicycles in the 80s, with which he produced very successful bikes and bike parts, until he had to leave the company at the end of the 90s due to shareholder decisions. He then invested two years in the planning and design of his new brand "Commencal". He founded the company in 2000 and introduced his first bike, the Supernormal.

Commencal's cool designs quickly caught on. He focused on the downhill-oriented rider and tried to design bikes that were as fun to ride as possible and also looked good. Commencal brought countless mountain bike greats onto its teams. Cedric Gracia, the Atherton siblings, Remi Thirion, Rob Warner and Kyle Strait rode for the brand. Today, the bikes from Andorra still convince with innovative geometries and their loyalty to aluminum frames and high-quality equipment.
